Artist collaborators Rita MacNelly and Beezy Bogan are known for their distinctive, life-sized mixed-media sculptures that merge the disciplines of painting and three-dimensional art. Working together from their studio since 1987, their process begins on the streets, where they photograph and sketch real people to capture unique and uninhibited personalities. Bogan then creates the foundational sculpture using wire mesh and plaster, establishing the figure's core form, while MacNelly adds the "clothing" cut from canvas, covers it in gesso, and paints it, lending the piece its final, vivid personality. The resulting works are "short stories closer to fact than fiction," offering an exaggerated, often humorous, and always deeply human look at people who are unapologetically themselves, and their art is regularly featured at Key West's Gallery on Greene alongside other prominent artists.
