Cindy Wynn (b. 1964) is a celebrated Key West artist known for her distinctive work in sculptural assemblage and functional art, which blends surrealism with industrial aesthetics. After studying ceramics, she discovered her passion for welding and the "unbelievable world of metal recycle yards." Wynn transforms discarded industrial surplus, machinery, and scrap metal—which she diligently collects and organizes—into intricate, whimsical, and often functional pieces, including chairs, tables, and lamps. Using cold fabrication techniques like welding, torch cutting, and grinding, her work draws inspiration from 18th-century furniture, brutalist architecture, and science fiction. The final pieces, sometimes polychromed for dramatic effect, are acclaimed for their precise engineering, comfort, and the ability to evoke a childlike sense of wonder and delight in the viewer.
