Bruce comes from a seafaring family and town, Boston, Mass. His father was a commander in the United States Navy and he also served in the Navy after WWII. He has lived in Key West since 1956.

He began building boat models after a 29 year stint in management and retired to his beloved workshop. He was walking down Fleming St. on day and saw boat models in a shop window. The one that caught his eye was a shrimper that he felt didn’t have enough character so he went back to his shed, cut up a cedar board and began making the “Gulf Pride” and sold her immediately to a local antique dealer.

His boats have been sold to museums, such as the original treasure salvage boat, “Dauntless” at Mel Fisher Museum, and a class of lost fishing boat which perished in a Hurricane in 1935 called the “Pogie Boat” for The Newport Maritime Museum, and many delighted collectors around the world.
